Vintage Pair of Bamboo Aesthetic Armchairs by Angraves of Leicester, c.1970

A charming and highly decorative pair of vintage bamboo aesthetic armchairs by the renowned Leicester makers Angraves, dating from the early 1970s. Beautifully crafted in natural bamboo with intricate faux-rattan lashings and attractive lattice backs, these chairs perfectly capture the relaxed elegance of the mid-century revival of Victorian bamboo furniture.

Featuring generous proportions, shaped arms and wonderfully detailed geometric fretwork backs, the chairs possess a light and airy appearance whilst remaining surprisingly robust and practical. The woven bamboo seats are comfortable and supportive, making them ideal occasional chairs for a conservatory, garden room, orangery, country house hallway, bedroom, or eclectic living space.

The mellow honey-coloured bamboo has developed a lovely natural patina over time, adding warmth and character. Presented in good overall condition with age-related wear consistent with careful use, the chairs remain structurally sound and ready for immediate placement within the home.

Bamboo and rattan furniture continues to enjoy strong demand amongst interior designers and collectors alike, particularly original pieces from respected British manufacturers such as Angraves of Leicester. Their versatility allows them to complement a wide range of interiors, from English country house and coastal settings to contemporary bohemian and maximalist schemes.

A handsome and increasingly sought-after matching pair with excellent decorative appeal and timeless style.
