Antique Dutch Pine Knockdown Double Armoire Wardrobe, c.1860

Ref: 2078

A handsome Antique Dutch Pine Knockdown Double Armoire Wardrobe, dating from circa 1860. Crafted from richly grained solid pine, this classic Continental piece features an architectural cornice above twin panelled doors with shaped fielded panels and chamfered edges. The wardrobe stands on elegant bracket feet and retains its original brass fittings and working key.

Knockdown in form, this piece was designed for ease of transport through narrow staircases and doorways, making it as practical today as it was for 19th-century European homes. Inside, the spacious interior includes a brass hanging rail and traditional pine panelled back, offering generous storage for clothing or linens. The mellow honey patina, small historic marks, and soft sheen of waxed pine combine to create a warm, timeless presence that complements both rustic and contemporary interiors.

A fine example of Dutch cabinetmaking, this armoire demonstrates balance, proportion, and the simple elegance characteristic of mid-19th-century European furniture.
